Health Minister Prakash Abitkar’s Proactive Planning Benefits Lakhs of Devotees During Ashadhi Wari; 

Pandharpur: Excellent healthcare facilities and swift response by the health department helped lakhs of devotees during this year’s Ashadhi Wari. The timely intervention also saved several lives, with the newly introduced air ambulance turning out to be a major boon.

Following directives from Maharashtra Health Minister Prakash Abitkar, the administration had made robust arrangements for medical services during the pilgrimage. As a result, devotees received quality healthcare throughout the yatra period.

During the Ashadhi Wari, six devotees suffered heart attacks and were immediately rushed to the Sub-District Hospital in Pandharpur. A team of doctors led by District Civil Surgeon Dr. Varsha Doifode, Sub-District Hospital Superintendent Dr. Vijaykumar Sarde, and Physician Dr. Seema Ingle provided prompt treatment and successfully saved all six patients. Their families expressed immense relief and gratitude.

Minister Abitkar had held a detailed review meeting in Pandharpur before the yatra and instructed officials to ensure immediate medical attention for pilgrims, especially given the challenges posed by heavy rains and long walks alongside the palkhis. 

This year, the health department made commendable arrangements. Medicines worth approximately ₹10 crore were utilised during the yatra. Devotees expressed high satisfaction with the medical facilities provided.

In a first, an air ambulance was kept on standby. One critically ill devotee was airlifted to Solapur for advanced treatment, and his life was saved.

Overall, the Health Department’s proactive and efficient performance has been widely appreciated during this year’s Ashadhi Wari.
