Nashik Hit by Torrential Rains: Water Released from 10 Dams, 27 Roads Closed

Heavy monsoon rains have battered Nashik district for the third consecutive day, causing water levels in reservoirs to rise sharply. Authorities have been forced to release large quantities of water from 10 dams, triggering floods in the Godavari, Darna, and several other rivers and streams.Floodwaters and landslides have blocked 27 roads and bridges across the district. In Surgana taluka’s Bhorsal village, 42-year-old Pundalik Chavan drowned after being swept away by floodwaters in a swollen stream while returning home from his farm.
Around 100 residents from Malegaon and Igatpuri were shifted to safer locations. As many as 42 houses were damaged or collapsed in Trimbakeshwar, Kalwan, Baglan, and Surgana talukas. Four livestock animals were also lost.
In Igatpuri, 15 villagers were evacuated after floodwater entered their homes. In Malegaon, 70 people living along the banks of the Girna River were moved to safety.
The Gangapur Dam has reached its full capacity due to heavy rainfall in the catchment area, leading to a heavy discharge of 19,000 cusecs into the Godavari River through Nashik city. District Collector Ayush Prasad has issued a high alert for Nashik city and the villages of Chandori and Saikheda in Niphad taluka, anticipating a further rise in water levels.
In a separate incident in Trimbakeshwar town, the tin roof of a house was blown away by strong winds, injuring three people. One of them is critically injured. All three have been admitted to the district hospital.
