Kharif Sowing Crosses 41.93% in Karad Taluka Amid Good Rainfall
KARAD: Recent satisfactory rainfall in Karad taluka has given a significant boost to Kharif sowing operations. Farmers have taken advantage of the rainfall intervals and completed sowing on a large scale.According to preliminary data from the Agriculture Department, out of the total planned Kharif area of 31,127 hectares, sowing has been completed on 13,053 hectares. This brings the Kharif sowing progress to 41.93% as of mid-July.Crop-wise Sowing StatusThe data shows a clear preference among farmers for soybean and groundnut this season:Soybean: 6,236 hectares
Groundnut: 4,066 hectares
Paddy (Rice): 2,255 hectares
Kharif Jowar: 461 hectares
Maize: 930 hectares
Additionally, farmers have also shown keen interest in new sugarcane planting, with 3,545 hectares already planted.Agricultural experts have noted that due to adequate soil moisture from the recent rains, seed germination has been satisfactory.Challenges and OutlookWhile sowing progress is good in most parts of the taluka, some areas are still awaiting sufficient rainfall. Farmers in these pockets are closely watching the weather.The rainfall over the next week is expected to be crucial for vigorous crop growth, fertilizer application, and weed control.
