"CJP, Have the Courage to Face Elections": Kangana Ranaut's Direct Challenge to Protesters

BJP MP and actress Kangana Ranaut strongly criticised the opposition parties following the chaos and protests organised by CJP at Jantar Mantar on the first day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament.

While speaking to reporters outside Parliament House, Ranaut said that raising questions and holding the government accountable is a part of democracy, but continuously disrupting proceedings and creating ruckus is not acceptable.She emphasised that the primary purpose of Parliament is to have detailed discussions on important national issues and to question the government. The opposition should raise its concerns inside the House, but slogan-shouting and stalling the functioning of Parliament is not the right way, she added.

Ranaut made it clear that decisions on who should hold or leave a position in the government cannot be dictated through pressure tactics. An elected government has the right to run the administration as per its mandate, and interfering in such decisions goes against the spirit of democracy.She also took an indirect dig at the opposition, saying that if they want to influence government decisions, they should first win the mandate of the people by contesting elections.

What Kangana Ranaut Exactly Said:

"We want the session to continue so that they can raise their questions there. But if they are going to create chaos, cause uproar, and... just like the way this protest is also going on, then... it is not right. Because the government that the people have elected has the right to decide how it wants to run things. 

If you feel so strongly about it, then you should also contest elections. You cannot twist the arms of the government (exert pressure) — deciding who should be removed and who should stay... This kind of arm-twisting is not good."
