Ananya Birla Steps into the Mud to Help Assam Flood Victims

Assam is currently in the grip of severe floods. Lakhs of people have been displaced and hundreds of homes destroyed. Against this backdrop, Ananya Birla — entrepreneur, singer and daughter of industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla — has personally gone to the flood-affected areas to lead relief efforts. Instead of limiting herself to financial aid, she stepped into the mud, met affected families, spoke with them and distributed essential supplies. Photos and videos of her work are going viral on social media.
For the past few days, floods have wreaked havoc across several districts of Assam. Thousands of families have been left homeless and rehabilitation work is continuing on a war footing. In these difficult times, Ananya Birla has set a fine example of social sensitivity. The relief work is being carried out through the Ananya Birla Foundation with the support of local NGOs and volunteers. She herself distributed dry fruits, food grains, drinking water, medicines and hygiene kits to the flood victims.
Ananya could easily have managed the entire operation from home. Yet she chose to go to the ground herself to offer moral support. She spoke freely with children in the affected areas, chatted with them and tried to bring smiles to their faces. “The courage and determination of the flood victims taught me a lot. Standing firmly by people in times of crisis is our social responsibility,” she said.
In the corporate world and among billionaire families, help during crises is usually limited to writing a cheque. Ananya Birla, however, preferred to understand the ground reality and join the relief work in person.
According to reports, Ananya Birla’s personal net worth is estimated at around ₹1,770 crore. Although the Birla family’s combined wealth exceeds $22 billion (roughly ₹1.8 lakh crore), she has created a distinct identity of her own. She lives in Jatia House on Malabar Hill in Mumbai — a bungalow her father bought in 2015 for approximately ₹425 crore. Spread over 30,000 square feet, the house has 20 bedrooms, lush gardens and exquisite Burmese teak woodwork.
