Krishna River Water Touches the Feet of Mahaganpati
Dhom Dam discharge increases
Continuous heavy rainfall in the western part of Satara district has caused the water level in Dhom Dam to rise rapidly. The dam is currently 89% full. To control the water level, authorities began releasing 4,966 cusecs of water from Dhom Dam into the Krishna riverbed this afternoon.
Due to this discharge, floodwaters have surrounded the famous Shri Mahaganpati Temple in Wai (popularly known as Dakshin Kashi), which stands on the banks of the Krishna River.
Today, the floodwaters of the Krishna River touched the feet of Lord Mahaganpati. In response, a traditional jalabhishek and mahapuja were performed at the temple. As tomorrow is Sankashti Chaturthi and water levels continue to rise, the administration has decided to keep the temple closed to devotees for safety reasons. Temple authorities have appealed to devotees not to enter the temple premises tomorrow and to take darshan from outside instead.
An alert has also been issued to villages along the banks of the Krishna River
Citizens have been advised to strictly avoid entering the riverbed or going near the riverbanks.
